What are bingo patterns?

There are many different kinds of bingo games and as the popularity of online bingo has increased so too has the number of new games that are available.

Nowadays it is all very different from the 90 ball game that was the major stalwart of the traditional bingo hall. With 90 ball bingo we don't usually think in terms of bingo patterns, but they still underpin how the game is played, they are just considerably simpler than those that are found in the US and other bingo formats.

90 ball bingo patterns cards have just three rows and nine columns and the winning patterns consist of just single lines and full house (when all of the numbers have been covered). The reason for this is that the card has an asymmetric layout.

The traditional US variant of bingo is the 75 ball game and this uses bingo cards with a symmetrical layout. There are five rows and five columns and although the game can be played by covering individual rows, the layout of the card lends itself to far more creative bingo patterns.

With a five by five matrix of square a very large number of patterns are available and these can be chosen to represent just about anything. For instance all the letters of the alphabet are available as too are many integers.

Animals also feature in bingo patterns as too do birds, and fish. Food items are popular and often seasonal items feature on websites at certain times of the year. At Christmas we are likely to find Christmas trees, Santa Clause, holly and reindeer. At Easter we find Easter eggs, bunnies and chicks. At Halloween we find witches and broomsticks, devils and other evil looking creatures.

There are so many repr4esentative shapes you can construct on a five by five bingo card that even a brief tour of bingo websites will show up over 300 bingo patterns that are used. And when you add other symmetrical forms of bingo cards such as six by six matrices then the numbers increase even more.

Bingo patterns are one of the major reasons why we find such variety in online bingo.
